Some Collaborations are GOLD!
Sometimes things go easier and better with a great collaboration. Or partnership.
In the case of Kenny Rogers, his best collaboration was with Lionel Richie. Kenny Rogers had a hit song written by Lionel Richie. Little did Kenny know at that time how important this song would become to him. It became his Signature Song.
“Lady” was first pitched to The Commodores but they turned it down. Then Kenny Rogers heard the song and loved it. The rest is history. “How could they have turned that word down?”
Watch this video and listen to Kenny talk about how he got involved with Lionel. At first when Kenny asked Lionel to write him a song, he said “No. I haven’t got time.”
Lionel changed his tune quickly once Kenny explained that it was going to be a hit song!
Songwriters love it when their songs become hits. They make a lot of money and become famous. Or their song makes someone famous.
Also Lionel can work under pressure, writing the 2nd verse of the song “Lady” in the toilet while they were recording the song in the studio.
When you’ve got the right partner, it’s easy! Kenny Rogers has known Lionel Richie for 32 years and Lionel has written many other hit songs for Kenny during this time.
If things haven’t gone that well with you, perhaps you haven’t found the right person (or group or organisation) to help you yet.
Persevere. Ask them again. Never take No for an answer!
Explain the advantages of working with you.
